I installed FreeRIP 3.091 (Windows Vista) and I am the administrator, but the CD Device does not read any CD (nothings happens at all). To grand CD use rights to non-admin users (if that is the problem) cannot be changed.

   1. Log in as Administrator --> I am the administrator and the only person using the computer (my user account is an administrator one)
   2. Run FreeRIP
   3. Select File->Settings->CD Use Rights menu option
   4. In Grant Rights window, check "All computer users" and press OK    --> not possible - radio button is light grey and cannot be changed

What can I do?

I've got the same problem. I logged in as a user with admin rights and the usage rights radio buttons are grayed out: I activated the Administrator account, logged in under it, they're still grayed out. I've checked McAfee and Microsoft settings and see no prohibition. I can rip via Media Player, though I'd much prefer the superior performance of FreeRIP   Wink. Any insight into this is appreciated. I have Windows Vista home edition (64-bit) with service pack 1 installed. There is a message on the CD usage popup saying this function is available for Windows 2000/XP/Vista only (perhaps it doesn't recognize Vista/64 as a Vista box?)

Thanks.

I have just encountered exactly the same problem after installing FreeRip 3.091.  It's very disappointing as I'm using FreeRip on my other PC;  i.e. older versions of both FreeRip and Windows (in that case, XP).  I had planned to upgrade both to the the Pro version, but will now have to wait and see what develops...

Anyway, here are the details for the computer on which I'm having problems:
Vista Home Premium (64 Bit)
  Version 6.0 (Build 6001: Service Pack 1)
HP Pavillion a6712f
  Pentium Dual Core E5200
  6.00 Gbytes RAM

Much like the other users with this problem, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've been having the same issue for awhile (3-4 months?).  Purchasing the Pro version today did not help.  I, too, am the only user on this computer and therefore the administrator.  My computer profile is eerily similar to the previous post... Windows Vista Home Premium ver 6 (Build 6001, SP1); HP Pavilion dv9000; AMD Turion64x2.  Are you having any luck determining why we can't be recognized as administrators?  Oddly enough, when I click "OK" on the warning message telling me I'm a "normal" user, the app starts up and lets me do everything I want to anyway; it's just mildly irritating to go through the extra step (not to mention being called "normal" by your software).   Roll Eyes

I posted this reply on the other thread for this issue, but it may help out here too, so...

I have gotten around this problem (I am running Vista x64 with FreeRIP Basic) by changing the properties on freerip3.exe.  Right click on the file, select properties.  Go to the "compatibility" tab and check "run this program in compatibility mode for."  I selected Windows 98/Windows ME (the option for Windows XP Service Pack 3 did nothing to improve the situation) and the program works just peachy now.

I hope this helps some of you fine folks out.

Cheers!

Yep, this is the fix. Must be Win98/ME - but working fine under Vista64bit.

I've had the same problem and found a solution.
This is a Vista (Home?) 32-bit system. Formerly, FreeRIP worked, but when I tried it this week, after some time without using it, it does not. It says the user must be Administrator. The only user belongs to the Administrator group, although it is not named "Administrator".

I suspect the problem might have appeared after some Windows update. I installed the latest version of FreeRIP (3.3) and still the same.

Solution #1: disabling the UAC (User Access Control, in Control Panel > User Accounts) and rebooting, the problem is gone. But I'm not comfortable disabling that, as it may have other effects of which I'm not sure (Windows reccomends enabling it). Re-enabling UAC the problem comes back.

Solution #2: find the freeRIP.exe in Program Files, right-click, choose Properties > Run this program as Administrator. Now the program works (altough every time I try to run it, a dialog box is displayed requesting permission)

Hope that this fix helps others.
