I just helped a friend set up his Vista x64 system. He has nothing loaded on it except Office 2007, Kaspersky 2009, Roxio and FreeRIP. Even though Vista recognizes the audio CDs and autoplays them just fine, FreeRIP doesn't see them at all.

Is FreeRIP compatible with Vista x64? FreeRIP Pro?

I'm running FreeRIP on Vista 32-bit, no problem at all.
Just  wonder, do you have more than one cd/dvd-player/burner in your machine?

I also have Vista 64 and though it runs on Vista 32 fine on another machine, it won't on my new Vista 64.

I've got the same issue too - with latest FreeRip.

I've attempted to Grant CD rights, but it doesn't work - permanently greyed out (as per another thread on here: http://www.mgshareware.com/community/index.php/topic,799.0.html)

Any idea of what the issue is, or when it may be resolved? (Thanks for FreeRip, i'm a registered/paid up user).

Unfortunately we have no testbed with Vista 64 so we are not able to investigate the problem, at the moment.  Sad

I have gotten around this problem (I am running Vista x64 with FreeRIP Basic) by changing the properties on freerip3.exe.  Right click on the file, select properties.  Go to the "compatibility" tab and check "run this program in compatibility mode for."  I selected Windows 98/Windows ME (the option for Windows XP Service Pack 3 did nothing to improve the situation) and the program works just peachy now.

I hope this helps some of you fine folks out.

Cheers!

Yep, this is working for me - thanks muchly. I'm a bit of a vista newby... so I've learnt something new here. That said, XP had a 98/ME compatability mode for apps too - just Vista hides things so well these days. Ahh, excuses, excuses...

Thanks again.

Thanks to Indou and to all FreeRIP friends for finding a workaround. We added a page in official FreeRIP website tutorials and faq section: http://www.freerip.com/frmmanual/tutorials/freerip_on_vista64.php

If you enact this change and get a window titled "FROG ASPI" saying "This library only works with Windows XP/2K" on launch of FreeRIP, make sure that the "Force ASPI Use" checkbox (under Options...) is unchecked.

I have tried to follow these directions but I still get a hang up. Literally.

Once I have changed the compatibility settings to Windows 98 and restart the program, I get the messages:
Quote
This library only works in Windows 2K/XP or higher.

followed by

Quote
No CD/DVD libraries found on your computer. The using of this program is impossible.

When I click on the Settings icon, the previous message pops up again and the program locks up. I have only used Ctrl/Alt/Del to shut it down since nothing else seems to respond.

I've been having the same problem with my Vista 64 bit Laptop and found the best solution to be to check the "Run this program as an Administrator" box which is at the bottom of the Compatibility Tab. None of the Compatability Modes would work for me but as the error was to do with Administrator Rights this option seemed the obvious choice.

Oddly I did not have this problem with my previous laptop which was also running Vista 64 bit!
