Do you have any plans about allowing more than one running instance of FreeRIP at a time? I use it very much, both for ripping and encoding, so it would be nice if i could rip and encode/convert files at the same time.

And thanks for a very great program!!

Elmo,

yes, I can do it. Anyway on the second instance of FreeRIP you will get errors  since when the first instance starts, it locks the CD device.
Anyway you will be able to use the first instance to rip audio CDs, and the second one to convert audio files.

Since many people asked for this feature I think I will add it for the next release but, as I said, it has caveats.

i bought a free rip pro, few minutes ago. What does multiple instances mean ?  I launched free rip, set the input as "Samsung CD drive". Then I launched another instance of free rip, and it let me set up the input as "Sony DVD drive". However, in the second instance, if never reads (means the tracks are not enlisted unlike in the other instance) the cd inserted into the "sony dvd drive" so that i can rip it into mp3.  Why ? Am i missing something ?

Well, it should read it.
But lets start from the beginning: if you run a single istance, can you read CDs from the Sony DVD drive?

got it..it was a drive issue (it was not reading even single instance on one of the cds - basically a master/slave issue prevented proper working of one of the drives). fixed it.. but the multiple instance stuff does not seem to work correctly, hanging consistently... because of the speed of the pc?

In order to make simultaneous rip from 2 different CD working, you need very good hardware.
It's not a problem of CPU speed only, you need that ide channels work well.
The best would be having devices connected on different channels, like a SATA HD and 2 PATA CD drives so that you can connect them to 3 different channels (all master, no slaves).

Multiple instance thing was born mainly to make multiple fle to file conversions (eg Wav to mp3), and in this, is now overcome by the multi core optimization that we are going to release in the next FreeRIP version (and that you can preview in the current public beta).
